RS Asbestos were appointed to remove all licensable Asbestos items from a derelict mill which had been subject to vandalism and criminal activity. The mill was deemed dangerous and parts of the floor in some sections of the mill were condemned leading to a series of enabling requirements to sure up the floor structurally to ensure that the works could be carried out safely. There were three main aspects to the removal.
Area 1 Involved removal of Asbestos lagged pipework at high level. This involved constructing a timber frame to form an enclosure around the pipe before wrapping the pipe in protective polythene sheeting and injecting the Asbestos lagging using specialist equipment at designated points along the pipe run to strip the lagging away and allow the operatives to safely cut the pipe away and discard of the whole thing as asbestos waste.
Area 2 was removal of Asbestos Insulating Board (AIB) from an area that been subject to random acts of vandalism and criminal activity, a designed scaffold was formed around the area where the AIB needed to be removed in order to provide a safe working platform in a fire damaged area, an enclosure was constructed within the confines of the scaffold to enable the safe removal of the AIB.
Area 3 involved the removal of warehouse walls that were constructed of Asbestos Insulating Board both internally and externally where the external AIB panels were over clad with tin corrugated sheets. Again a designed scaffold had to be constructed to facilitate the full removal of the AIB enabling us to overcome the complexities of access to high level and uneven ground and facilitate the removal of the AIB within one large enclosure which could achieve an air-tight seal and allow us to safely remove all the AIB.
